What's Happening in Spokane
Lilac Bloomsday Run
The largest timed footrace in the world, Bloomsday attracts over 50,000 participants each May to join in this 12-kilometer race. Part of its charm is the diversity of entrants – elite racers, runners, walkers, children and wheelchair racers. Each finisher receives a t-shirt. Pre-registration is necessary.
Lilac Festival
In May, Spokane celebrates spring with ten days of activities, culminating with the Armed Forces Torchlight Parade. Other festivities include an amateur golf tournament, a Military Ball, and the Junior Lilac Parade.
Hoopfest
The largest 3-on-3 basketball tournament of its kind in the world, Hoopfest turns Spokane’s downtown into a basketball lover’s dream each June. For two full days, 6,400 teams and 200,000 players and fans – everyone from adults, kids and wheelchair athletes – “hoop it up” on 400 half-courts. Participants need to pre-register.
Green Bluff Apple Harvest Festival
The present-day Green Bluff Growers is an association of small family farms and food stands. Seasonal activities include pick-your-own fruit and annual festivals including the popular Apple Harvest Festival held in September where you can enjoy a large variety of the best apples, fresh-pressed cider and other produce. Green Bluff also has music, great food, craft booths, corn and straw mazes, and farm animals.
Artfest
Each June, the grounds of the Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture in the historic Brown’s Addition neighborhood of Spokane come alive for three days of outdoor art, live music, and children’s festivals. Juried work of many artists and craftspersons is featured. Music, demonstrations, and hands-on activities for children and food complement the fine presentations.
First Night Spokane
This visual and performing arts festival welcomes the New Year by marking the passage of time with art, live entertainment, ritual and festivity. On New Year’s Eve, First Night Spokane transforms our metropolitan area into a spectacle of light, sound, live performances, and multi-cultural events.
Valley Fest
Held annually during the third or fourth weekend of September in Terrace View Park, this day-long celebration pleases children and families with arts and crafts, food, and a kid’s parade.
Pig Out in the Park
Held annually over the Labor Day weekend in September in Riverfront Park, this five-day celebration signals the end of summer with 50 hours of free entertainment, 45 food booths, and numerous vendors.
